Simplified Naming and Target Segments
The RX 9000 series introduces a streamlined naming convention. The RX 9070 cards are designed to compete directly with NVIDIA’s RTX 4070 lineup, while the RX 9060 targets the RTX 4060 series. Both the XT variants are for high-performance needs, while the non-XT models offer more cost-effective solutions.
Key Features of RDNA 4
- Optimized Compute Units: Improved efficiency and performance.
- Second-Generation AI Accelerators: Enhanced AI computing capabilities.
- Third-Generation Ray Tracing Accelerators: Better ray tracing performance per compute unit.
- Second-Generation Radiance Display Engine: Improved media encoding quality.
- 4nm Manufacturing Process: Better power efficiency and performance.
In addition to architectural improvements, RDNA 4 GPUs support AMD’s new FSR 4 technology, an AI-powered upscaling solution that offers high-quality 4K upscaling, frame generation, and reduced latency through Anti-Lag 2.
Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9060 Series Details
AMD confirmed the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs will feature up to 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. The RX 9060 series, expected to launch later, will include up to 8 GB of GDDR6 memory. The RX 9070 series will succeed the RX 7900 XT and RX 7800 XT, while the RX 9060 replaces the RX 7700 XT and RX 7600 XT.
Reference and Custom Designs
The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 will be available in reference designs from AMD and custom variants from board partners such as ASUS, Gigabyte, Sapphire, and XFX. The lineup will include models like the ASUS TUF Gaming, PowerColor Red Devil, and Sapphire NITRO+ editions.
